Three is a crowd.

Counting Voices: A lively group discussion, an intimate tête-à-tête, an inner monologue — in your view, when it comes to a good conversation, what’s the ideal number of people?

One is alone

Until joined by two

Three is not far away

It makes a crowd they say.

Four can be fun

But even that can become

One on one

We need a five to make it odd.

Six would be too strange

What have you got?

Seven in a number!?

That is too great.

To have a meaningful talk

Eight better not be a part

Or else,

It will be a game of  charades.

While I am listening to you…

Do you need any more ears?

I’ll keep my point too

A tête-à-tête with no fears.

In the end, It takes only two

One to speak, the other to comprehend.

Alas! even this…

Could break or mend.

Five makes sense to me because my friends-group in college was of five (is… of five we are still in touch). Obviously, at times, we rarely made sense to each other let alone to others/strangers. Nonetheless we had a blast every time, every day was a new adventure – Ah! student life!

The last stanza sums up my message beautifully I guess.
